11th Folkestone Scout Group

Ventures are the oldest youth section of the scouting movement, aged between 15½ and 21. Rams VSU is a Venture Scout Unit in Folkestone, affiliated to 11th Folkestone St. Johns Scout Group. Folkestone & Hythe District has no district Venture Unit, so Rams is the "drop-in-centre" for all members belonging to groups without Venture units. They run a very varied programme meeting every week on Wednesdays, from 7.30 until 9.30, and take part in outdoor and adventurous activities. They've been on hikes, camping, mountaineering, gliding, canoeing, skiing, murder-mystery evenings, had lots of parties and much much more. These activities are organised by the Unit members, in conjunction with the "exec committee", and aided by adult leaders whenever the need arises. You don't have to be mad to join, but apparently it really does help!

Janus 99 - queens scout expedition
Janus is a camp for all of kent's venture scouts held every 3 years (yep, there's one this year) so is fairly rare in itself, and the queens scout award is the highest award is given out by the scouting movement for a youth member; and it's the most difficult - incorporating a 4 day, at least 50 miles on foot expedition in unfamiliar territory.
Recipients are invited to attend a special presentation at windsor castle, normally attended by a member of the royal family.
This report is the most recent expedition and has been written by one of the rams.
