Nearly five million cubic metres of Chalk Marl which came from the Channel Tunnel were used to create Samphire Hoe. Wildflowers and grasses were sown over about half of the area. Five seed mixtures were designed to suit the conditions on different parts of the site after research on the plants growing locally. Many plants from the surrounding countryside have already arrived naturally, including wild orchids. The vegetation is attracting other wildlife. Butterflies, dragonflies, grasshoppers, and birds are just some of the species enjoying the new land. The further you get from the car park, the more wild the site becomes. The site is accessible to everyone, and there is an ongoing programme of improvements to make access even easier. Under
