Hythe & District Model Railway Club
Meet:
every Monday and Wednesday evening at a smart new hall in Cheriton,
to work on our current club layouts in 'N' scale, 'OO', 'EM', and 'O'
which cover diverse time periods and settings including British steam,
British modern image and American.
The
club is affiliated to The Model Railway Club of Great Britain. It
was first formed in 1950, its founder members including G.P. Keen (former
Chairman and President of The Model Railway Club of Great Britain) and
Captain Howey (of "Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway" fame), together
with W.P.F. Kelly, Colonel Tyrrell and a few other local wealthy model
railway enthusiasts. In those days it was more like a Gentlemen's Club,
while the club today is a result of what was effectively a "relaunch"
in 1972 by Doug Richards. Since then the club has steadily grown in membership
and stature amongst the railway modelling fraternity, and an annual exhibition
in October is now firmly established as a leading event in the area.
New
members are always welcome, so if you are interested in model railways
and would like to improve your skills or share your talents and experience
and help us work on our various layouts then why not come along to a
club night and meet us all?
